Another grey day today, sadly. But here is a lactose free lovely to cheer you up whatever the weather!
Purchased from: Tesco, but also available in other supermarkets. This used to be available in health food shops, but now it has been taken over by Unilever I’m not sure on the availability.
Lactose/dairy free: Dairy free. Packaging states it is suitable for vegans.
Description of product: A tasty soya-based alternative to ice cream
You can’t review lactose free ice cream without including Swedish Glace, possibly the most well-known and loved substitute. When I first became dairy free, this was pretty much the only ice cream on the market (which I could find anyway!).
It may well be one of the originals, but it is also still one of the best.
This ice cream has a lovely creamy texture to it and is a soft-scoop ice cream. In addition to the wonderful texture, it has a delicious taste. It actually has the flavour of a more expensive dairy ice cream with a rich, creamy vanilla taste.
As it is a vanilla ice cream, it is extremely versatile and can be used with desserts as well as eaten on its own.
I always have a tub of this ice cream in my freezer, due to it’s versatility and flavour. Even dairy eating folk appreciate the taste of this substitute, which is win-win if you want something the whole family can enjoy rather than having to buy separate items to suit different dietary needs. Swedish Glace also do a variety of flavours, although these are not always available everywhere.
